The sperm may be injected directly into the uterus (intrauterine insemination – IUI) or be used to fertilise eggs with the IVF method. The sperm donor, who remains anonymous, is 18-35 years old, is examined by a pathologist and submitted to appropriate laboratory tests:

  • Blood type – Rhesus
  • Sperm analysis test (spermogramme)
  • Chromosomal testing (Karyotype)
  • Hepatitis B and C, syphilis
  • HIV
  • NAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification) testing: This is a molecular biology technique that allows us, within 24 hours, to know if the donor has been infected by hepatitis B and C and HIV
  • Haemoglobin electrophoresis for thalassaemia, etc.
  • Mycoplasma, chlamydia (aerobic and anaerobic), cytomegalovirus, toxoplasma, listeria
  • Cystic fibrosis
